Saskatoon Doula Services
Vitae Doula services support the mother and partner to have more control and confidence to achieve the birth of their choice by providing emotional support, information and advocacy.
Having a doula at your birth, you may:
- have a shorter labour
- have a less painful labour
- have fewer interventions
- feel more satisfied with you birth
Process
As your doula, we will schedule two prenatal meetings. This will give us an opportunity to talk in detail about your preferences regarding your birth. I will ask about your knowledge of the birth process, and can provide information and education as needed. You will be invited to share your own personal ways of coping with pain and fatigue. This will help us decide what internal resources you can draw upon to assist you with the birthing experience.
We will discuss how you and your partner foresee working together, and the roles of others who may be attending the birth. I can assist with gathering information to make sure you have the information you need to make informed decisions about your birth. We will discuss together what fears and concerns you have regarding the birth. We can review your preferences regarding the use of pain medications and other interventions.
When you are in Labour
When you think labour has begun, call me. I can offer help and advice with comfort measures such as breathing, relaxation, movement, positioning, and massage. My most critical role is providing continuous emotional reassurance and comfort.
I will also be recording information for your birth story and can take picture of events you have requested before labour.
After Birth
As your doula, I will remain with you for a few hours after birth. I will wait until you are comfortable, and the family is ready for quiet time together. I can help with initial breastfeeding, if desired. My services include two postpartum visits, usually one within three days of the birth and one two weeks postpartum. During these visits, I can provide breastfeeding support, baby care tips, referrals to community resources, and a chance to discuss the birth experience. If you are in need of further support, additional visits are always an option.

What Clients Say
S & J
We had the lovely privilege of having Chelsea as our doula. This was my second labour and had a very medicalized first delivery. Chelsea always supported any decision we made and was very helpful providing us with whatever information we needed to make the best decision for us. She was always alert, calm and on the ball when it came to answering any of our questions even if they were 2:30 in the morning and we were a little frazzled ourselves. She was right there when we needed her and often was one step ahead already doing what needed to get done. She made my first experience with natural labour a very pleasant and memorable one. I would recommend her to anyone and will definitely be hiring her again if we have anymore.

It was amazing how supportive and knowledgeable they were during my pregnancy! They addressed all my concerns and helped me make a Birth plan that really worked for me. Lacey and Chelsea took the time to mentally and physically prepare me for the brith I wanted to have. They let me be in control of my birth experience.

We highly reommend Chelsea as a doula. She was calm and supportive and was a very postitive presence throughout. She really understood what I needed and between he and my husband I could not ahve asked for a better support team.
From the Dad: While my wife was in labour she was extremely knowledgeable about our options and outcomes from those options. Chelsea allowed me the availablity to take care of myslef while my wige was labouring. I was able to leave for food, drinks, etc to insure that i was able to be present both mentally and physically for the birth of my baby.
